Wingshadow Ranch is a working ranch albeit scaled back a bit. We have a small herd of beef cows and calves on short grass pastures located on the rolling prairie 25 miles east of Colorado Springs. Perched on a ridge the ranch offers a stunningly panoramic vista that sweeps from south of the Spanish Peaks to the Black Forest which frames as its centerpiece America's Mountain, Pike's Peak! Consider this an invitation to artists - painters, photographers, writers, quilters, artisans and anyone who is moved by nature. The light is softly unique, the sky is ever expanding and the colors are breathtaking. The visuals will feed your soul.
When you turn into our gate, cross the cattle guard and drive the quarter mile to the guesthouse, the view of the mountains begins to impress. However, once you arrive and start to feel yourself unwind, a gentle peace begins to ebb and flow through the old elm trees along with the residents' birdsong - mourning doves, nighthawks, mockingbirds and many others. In the evenings the sweet, clean aroma of the prairie rises with the humidity. At night the stars feel close enough to touch. You may find yourself drawn to the fire pit to sit and watch the embers climbing the evening sky as you listen to the echoes of the prior pioneers and cowboys who worked and rode this land. This reflective quiet will restore your soul.
We have a greenhouse open year round with tomatoes, peppers, lettuce and greens. In the summer there are fresh vegetables available from the garden. If your green thumb is starting to itch, you are welcome to pitch in and help with the watering, weeding and harvesting. Across the drive from the guesthouse is our art/furniture building studio where we usually have at least a couple of projects in progress. Also, in winter we grow green fodder in a special facility which is available for tours - quite interesting. Creative endeavors that will invigorate your soul.
This is an "end of the road" retreat. It's not hard to find, but it is remote. The nearest gas station is half an hour away in Ellicott. The nearest shopping is is 45 minutes away in Falcon, Pueblo or Colorado Springs. Most of the events and attractions ( Seven Falls, Royal Gorge, Cave of the Winds, Garden of the Gods, Pike's Peak, etc.) are one to two hours away. But, there are some lesser known features (Signal Rock and the Paint Mines) only half an hour away.
The 800 square foot one bedroom guesthouse is ideal for couples featuring a luxurious king size bed with custom built base, headboard and side tables. The full bath has a shower/bath combo with handrail. The bathroom also has its own heater for bathing comfort. New towels and linens with a good hand. The kitchen has a full sized fridge and electric range with warming drawer. Included are plates, glasses, cutlery, wineglasses, pots, pans and baking sheets and basic spices and pantry items: foil, plastic wrap etc. Also, the kitchen has a coffee pot, microwave, crockpot and toaster. It has a fireplace, air conditioning and electric baseboard heat. On the south side of the guesthouse is a concrete patio with seating and a wonderful view of Spanish Peaks.
